The A+ Teacher Award is awarded to an Oklahoma A+ School Teacher whose extraordinary creativity and integration of the arts into the curriculum exemplifies the purpose of the A+ Schools of nurturing creativity in every learner. Administrative support of this whole school transformation is critical to its effectiveness.
The 2010 award goes to Cecelia Cameron , Freedom Elementary, Sapulpa, 4th grade teacher. Nancy Turlington is her Principal. One of the indicators of her role is in the creation of Freedom's 4th grade "State Fair". This annual event showcases all the fourth graders' state research in the manner of a science fair. Students dress up as a famous person or a worker from their state. All classes, parents, and community members are invited to see the display boards and costumes, and hear each student's "30 second commercial" about their state. Two Finalists who received certificates are Kanda Hill, Wilson Elementary in Bartlesville, K-12 visual art teacher, Sandy Kent, Principal, and Glenda Cook, Monroe Elementary in Norman, a 2nd grade teacher.
